Wanderer Adventures is part of the Searoad Ferries group of companies, employing more than 250 people and moving around one million customers each year. Searoad Ferries have been operating the iconic Queenscliff-Sorrento car and passenger service since 1987. Our bus tour company Explore Australia / Naturaliste Tours connects customers to amazing tourism and wildlife experiences across Victoria. Searoad Ferries also operates Western Port Ferries’ services connecting Stony Point to French Island and Phillip Island in Western Port Bay.
About the Role
The General Manager – Wilsons Promontory is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing both the General Store and Tour Operations, driving performance, maintaining compliance, and delivering exceptional visitor experiences. The role requires a balance of commercial acumen, operational leadership, and a hands-on approach suited to a remote and environmentally sensitive location.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the General Manager plays a critical role in the success of the Wilsons Promontory operations by leading the safe, efficient, and commercially effective delivery of both cruise and general store activities.
The role is responsible for integrating marine and land-based operations to ensure a seamless, high quality visitor experience within a unique and environmentally sensitive national park setting. This includes maintaining strong operational discipline, regulatory compliance, and a consistent focus on safety, reliability, and customer service.
The General Manager supports the COO and broader leadership team in driving operational performance, strengthening culture and people leadership, and identifying opportunities to grow the business while respecting environmental and stakeholder constraints. The role requires a balance of strategic oversight and hands on management in a dynamic, seasonal environment.
Leading a multi-disciplinary team, the General Manager works collaboratively with internal teams, Parks Victoria, regulators, and local stakeholders to ensure operations are delivered efficiently, sustainably, and in line with all legislative and safety requirements.
The position is accountable for financial performance across the General Store and Tour Operations, including revenue growth, cost control, and budget management. It also plays a key role in enhancing the overall visitor offering through product development, presentation standards, and the effective use of systems and technology to improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
About You
You are a strategic, hands-on leader with a strong track record in tourism, hospitality or marine operations and the commercial skills to grow a successful business.
Essential

Minimum 5–8 years senior management experience with proven people leadership and operational oversight (preferably in tourism, hospitality, maritime or related industries)

Demonstrated P&L accountability and strong commercial/financial acumen (budgeting, forecasting, KPI management)

Experience developing and executing growth, marketing and customer-experience strategies that drive revenue and repeat business

Strong operational knowledge, including rostering, asset maintenance, safety systems and compliance (experience with Safety Management Systems desirable)

Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills — able to represent the business with government, partners, suppliers and the community

High-level HR capability: recruitment, performance management, staff development and industrial/enterprise agreement experience

Confident decision-maker who can prioritise, manage risk and resolve complex problems under pressure

Exceptional customer focus with proven ability to maintain high quality standards and create memorable customer experiences

Strong personal presentation, professionalism and ability to lead by example.

Relevant tertiary qualification (Business, Tourism, Maritime or similar)

Experience with digital marketing, CRM and reservation systems
